On Fire

GYC. Generation of Youth for Christ.

I didn't get to attend this year due to finances, but is it really that? After all my heavenly Father owns the cattle on a thousand hills, and I'm a child of the King. I think maybe it's a lack of faith, lack of faith that I can go because the devil has led me to believe I "can't afford it".

Aside from that, this year GYC is incredible, youth, on fire, for the Lord. It's contagious. God needs Youth.

I was incredibly inspired by Justin McNeilus's sermon the opening night of this year's GYC, talking about a movement of young people on fire for the Lord.

I don't know how to begin to talk about how amazing and incredible this is!! Where do I start!? how can i get other young people on fire for the Lord!? It's so amazing.

Watch GYC! I can assure you if you take each word to heart you will be blessed!

Fuel the fire, be a part of a generation of youth, an army of youth for Christ! ...START HERE...

Do Hard Things

So I read this book called Do Hard Things and the sequel to it is called Start Here. I haven't read the sequel, but I am starting here....

I am a horrible writer, well maybe not according to what I've been told, but I do hate writing. Unless I have something important to say, like what I am going to try to summarize in a few paragraphs right now.

Do Hard Things was written by Alex and Brett Harris and is written for teens. This book is about teens rebelling. As if we needed any encouragement in that area! But we do, you see this book isn't about rebelling in a sense that you are thinking of, it's better, WAY better. This book is all about teens rebelling, teens rebelling against low expectations.

Have you ever felt that your life just wasn't good enough? Have you felt lost, with nowhere to go and no one to turn to? This book is for you. Do you have a burning passion deep within you, for something that you can't identify? This book is for you. Are you doing what you feel is your best, but still dissatisfied with your comfort zone? This book is for you. In fact, this is a great book for EVERYONE.

1 Timothy 4:12 says, "Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity." (NIV)

This text is, to say the least, epic.... let's take it apart.

Do not let anyone look down upon you because you are young. So basically, don't let anyone think any less of you than they would of someone else merely because you are younger (acting mature helps in this area).

But set an example for the believers. Show them what you're made of.

In speech. What you say.

In conduct. How you act.

In love. What would Jesus do?

In faith. The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1).

And in purity. Keeping our bodies as the temple of the holy spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16).

In summary,

Don't let anyone think any less of you because you're a kid, but show them what you're made of by what you say, how you act, how you treat others, through your faith, and by keeping yourself pure for God.

Seem like a high calling?

Ask yourself; What can I do? How can I make a difference? What pops into your head when you ask those questions? If it was God inspired, like "raise money to dig a well for poor villagers in a desert in Africa" or "sponsor a child in another country so they can go to school" (school, something that to many of us HATE to do), why are you still sitting here? Stop reading my blog and go do it.

This generation needs a revival, a reformation, a change. The 21st century couch potatoes (that most of our generation has become) need to make a difference in our world. What better time than right now? People always say that the youth are the future, but why accept that title when we can be the present; the here and the now? Think as hard as you can of someone you know that has helped people and made a difference... who is it? How old is/was the person you thought of? It's highly unlikely that they were under 30... or even under 40.

Seriously... if that person made a difference, you can make even a bigger difference! God is calling youth to be ambassadors for Christ to a lost and dying world! The message in the book Do Hard Things is what this couch potato generation needs to hear and act on!

I really don't know what else to say on this topic, but the book is amazing. I highly recommended reading it. And for more on fire youth... watch GYC.

Set my faith on fire!
That's my one desire!
Make my life a pure and holy flame,
So the world can see,
There's a fire in me,
Burning by the power of Your name!
Start a blaze, set my faith, faith on fire!
